Can't restore address book in MAX 10 Ent. on 64 bit Vista Machine

I hope I'm in the right area for help.  I upgraded from MAX 9.5 to 10 Ent. solely for the purpose of running it on my new 64 bit Vista machine.  The installation went fine, and I've been using it for a couple of weeks.  I have backed up regularly, and love the reduced time from MAX 9.  But, I needed to restore my backup file yesterday, and found out I can't get past the password area in Administrator.  My password, CONTROL, nothing works.  I also tried logging on as Windows Administrator, with same result.

So, I installed the solftware to my 32 bit laptop, and everything, including backup and restore, works fine.  Can anyone help?  This is just a waste of time and money if I can't get this to work on my new machine.

    Thanks,

    Capt. Butch

    Butch,

Have you been able to restore this address book to your second system? This may be address book specific.

Try running Maximizer and Maximizer Administrator in Admin Mode (right-click on the icon and select "run as admin").

Also, do you ever get a double login prompt (ie: the system prompts you to login twice)?

It sounds like it could be a password mismatch between the Maximizer software and the SQL Server Database.

    Ryan,

Don't know if this will get to you, but as I stated in the forum I have already tried logging on as Adminstrator as you suggest.  Also, as I stated, everything works just fine on the laptop 32 bit system.  I can back up and restore just fine.  Have not seen a double login prompt.  Don't know what it is, but it's driving me nuts, and really pissing me off.  I'm the only one in my small biz, and I don't have time for this kind of stuff.

Thanks for answering.  I appreciate your help.  Hope to hear from you again.

    Butch,

I'm sorry to hear you are getting so frustrated and do not have the time to resolve this on your own.

I would suggest calling in to technical support at 1-888-745-4645.

They should be able to resolve your issue in a minimum of time.

I have been having the same problem installing my Maximizer10 on my new computer Vista x64. It works fine on my laptop Vista x32 but when I tried to install on my new desktop I spent about 20 hours and gave up. I took it to Best Buy for installation. It took them 4 days but they finally got the program installed but I can't create any address books. When I try to create a new address book I keep getting an error message "Microsoft ODBC SQL Server Driver Login failed for user. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection" then I click okay and get another error "Failed to connect due to invalid database entries found in the configuration file".

I can access the sample files that come with Max10, like Escona Tutorial, but can't create my own address book.

Maximzer use to work fine when they used a pervasive system but now they have changed to the SQL and it obviously has some serious problems working with Vista 64 bit systems.

I called the toll free number but if I want help they are going to charge me $70.00 per 1/2 hour to help me get this to work. They should be ashamed of themselves.

    Hi Carol,

Sorry to hear you're having problems.  Max 10 is awesome on Vista 64 bit once you get it working.  Your problem is completely different from mine.  I had no problem creating an address book.  My problem was restoring a backed up file after the fact.  The system wouldn't accept ANY password.  I had the good fortune to get connected with a tech named Slaven, who was very thorough, and stayed on my problem until there was a solution.  I can tell you that it took 3 full days, and that Maximizer knew they had a problem with other 64 bit users, and wanted to get it fixed.

They gave me great service, but if this has been a problem since install, I would raiser forty kinds of hell with Maximizer and get support without charges.  That's rediculous!  Times are hard, yes.  But, right is right, and wrong is wrong.  As end users we're not supposed to have to engineer and perfect the damned software for the publisher.  We should have a reasonable expectation that it will work.

My experience with Max has always been very good.  I have to believe that if you get hold of the right folks in support, they will work with you sans charges.

I hope you'll keep me posted as to how you resolve the problem.

    Hi Butch:

Thanks for the well wishes on getting my Max10 to work. Well I got my computer back from Best Buy and the Geek Squad (after 2-1/2 days and 6 Geeks) finally figured out how to get it installed. I am able to access the sample address books but cannot make a new address book to retreive my back up. So now I am sitting here with it installed but cannot use it.

Before I got my computer back from Best Buy I got a call finally from Maximizer and he commented they had received all my messages and emails and would try to help me for about $70.00. He also said it must be my computer because they haven't had any problems with other Vista x64. Don't you just hate it when a company knows they have problem and blantantly lie about it.

Now that I have my computer back I am going to call them again and start yelling because this is absurd. I will keep you posted.

    Hi Tariq,

Well, my problem wound up being a password problem.  It was so long ago, and it took them three days to figure it out.  My final instructions were that if it happened again, do the following:

    Run SQL as Admin

    Connect to DB

    Go to Security>Master>Properties

    Change PW to XXXXX

SQL was inventing passwords on my system for some reason.  That was the fix.  Hope it works for you.

Re: Can't restore address book in MAX 10 Ent. on 64 bit Vista Machine

Thanks for the information about restoring and password problems. I fixed the probem by restoring my computer to an earlier time and it fixed it but sit on pns and needles everyday waiting for something else to go wrong with this program. I have never had so many problems as I have had with this new Max10. My office has 5 other employees still using Max 8 and now I can't transfer files to them because the later and earlier versions are not compatible. No one wants to upgrade after seeing all the problems I had. My boss is talking about upgrading her systems but I am going to recommend to her she stay with what she has or switch to ACT.

    Thanks for the help.
